Most front wheel drive vehicle engines are transversely mounted for compact packaging. This engine orientation results in larger engine movements and high levels of vibration being transmitted to the exhaust system, because the engine motion is perpendicular to the exhaust pipe. The best way to provide for motion, compensation, and isolate noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) in exhaust systems is to use a flexible exhaust decoupler.
